Reduce Overtime, Cut Costs,
and Elevate Patient Dining

Unox

TouchPoint Support Services is committed to providing delicious, nutritious, and well-prepared meals while reducing food waste, minimizing costs, and testing new technological innovations.

To serve traditional, slow-cooked meals quickly and consistently, TouchPoint leadership was intrigued by Unox’s promising new equipment. They identified an account in Waco, Texas, served by their senior living hospitality division, Catered Living, as the site for the initial pilot program.

The Situation

Upon reviewing Unox’s advanced ovens and food service equipment, leadership chose a Unox oven and the Evereo 600, the first “hot fridge,” as the solution to their needs. Utilizing Evereo’s heat preservation system, precise temperature control, and accurate chamber atmosphere management, this system can cook and preserve meals for up to 72 hours at serving temperature. Paired with Unox’s multi-day pans and trays, Evereo allows TouchPoint chefs to prepare traditional meals in advance and hold the food at serving temperature until ordered, resulting in zero wait time for patients and guests.

Solutions & Impact

February 2023 saw the Waco team launch a $130,000 pilot program to incorporate a Unox oven and the Evereo 600 holding unit into its food service operations. Overseen by Executive Chef Jessica Battcher, the program aimed to create healthy meals, deliver them quickly, minimize food waste, and reduce labor costs.

Despite initial installation delays and supply chain issues, the TouchPoint team found Unox receptive to feedback, developing an Evereo package suited to their needs. Running from February to April 2023, the pilot was deemed a success. Chefs can now prep and hold multiple meals at once, reducing associate overtime by up to 80%.

Patient satisfaction scores rose from 75% in November 2022 to 88.69% in April 2023, with diners pleased by improved food quality and new menu options. The Unox system offers energy, food, and labor savings, making it a strong contender for continued roll-out within TouchPoint’s locations.
